Purchasing a home is not something that should be taken on lightly.
One option I believe should be consisted is a "Small or Tiny" home. Upon hearing the phrase Tiny Home many automatically think, "I can't fit my family in a house that small" or they think, "Where will I put all my stuff? "
Both are legitimate concerns but what's more important are the facts like
1. More Tiny Home owners have zero mortgage than traditional home owners
2. There are more Tiny Home owners with zero credit card debt than traditional homes owners with credit card debt.
3. Most Tiny House owners have around $10,000 in savings, not ship with traditional home owners

Tiny House ownership can liberate us from major, long-term debt, worry about money & the fear of one major life event causing financial woes.

Re: What if I lose My Job?

You may have not intended to do so, but I think
you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. I've heard it said (& I agree) that a budget is "how you tell money to work for you" instead of you constantly working for money.

Re: Back to Basics: Keep Track of Your Money

This is a really good reminder for those just starting to be financially responsible and to financial veterans. She canceled all non-essentials including cable. We have yet to put cable back into or lives. Instead we put that money towards reducing debt, savings, emergency fund, etc.
Living this way allows us to have a reserve so that if we become unemployed again we'll have less to worry about.
Willingness to cut back during unemployment is a good attribute to have. But, the fact that we can live without certain things when we don't have a job proves we can live without them before reaching that point.

Re: Winning Money Habits: Track Your Money

Yes! It is amazing what can be accomplished when you can actually SEE where your money is going. Humans are visual creatures. I would add "snail mail" Christmas Cards to Family, friends and if you're inclined, Soldiers (through the Red Cross etc,) Also, give Special notes, a call, and /or Time to people you know may be struggling after loss of a loved one. Ask local schools, clinics & churches & nursing homes if there's any little thing that may help. I volunteer with decorating the schools, feeding visiting reindeer, read to children.. etc! :)
**Above all, SMILE, Be Kind, Patient and Loving**
Wonderful Holiday Season to all.
Blessings, ~Deb
